A journey to building confidence in speaking English

As parents and teachers we do everything in our knowledge to support our children’s education. For the past 6 years, we have received the trust of many parents in building a strong reading foundation for their children using phonics blend as a tool to spell without memorization. Once reading was enabled and hundreds of vocabularies were taught with meaning, we were also successful in achieving more reading with comprehension time in student’s daily life. We have a huge library filled with reading books we allow our students to borrow to encourage more reading. This has been our strength and will continue to be in the coming years. 

Moving forward, we are committed to achieving excellence in speaking English with confidence. We realized through these past six years that children are confident in speaking English with teachers in class when they come to Amaze but lack the confidence when they step out of class. This is due to many reasons, namely, lack of practice at home, afraid of making mistakes, shyness especially with parents and strangers ‘coz they never speak in English with them. Therefore, to encourage more English speaking, we are now offering weekly activity lessons where Amaze students can join for free in the kick-off period. Activity lessons is an English speaking friendly practice ground that encourages speaking through fun, excitement, curiosity and interest. We also have free sessions for Amaze moms to get weekly tips on how to create an English speaking  friendly practice moments at home. We believe that these two initiatives will join forces of Amaze education advocates, Amaze teachers and Amaze parents together in encouraging Amaze students to be more fluent in speaking English not only at Amaze, but also at home and outside of Amaze classrooms. We believe ‘practice makes perfect’! We also believe that there is no use in learning English as a second language, if we don’t ensure that students also have the right foundation in speaking English in their daily life.
